Our Learning Environment

Where sustainability, inclusion, and curiousity thrive

At Murdoch University Childcare Centre, we believe in creating a nurturing and innovative learning environment that is rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and the Reggio Emilia approach. Our spaces are designed to inspire curiosity and foster creativity, while also prioritising our planet and the diverse needs of our community.

Sustainability at the heart of our practice

We are passionate about creating eco-conscious learning spaces. Our membership with ReMida allows us to recycle and repurpose materials, transforming everyday items into unique educational tools. This commitment to sustainability is reflected in everything we do, from using environmentally friendly products to teaching our children the importance of caring for the world around them.

Through hands-on experience, children learn the value of reusing, recycling, and reducing waste, fostering a sense of responsibility and connection to the environment.

Inclusive learning: Embracing language diversity

Our community is rich in linguistic diversity, and we celebrate this by providing an environment where every child feels understood and valued. Our staff members speak a wide range of languages, including - Auslan (Australian Sign Language), Bengali, Hindi, Farsi, English, Urdu, Mandarin, Sinhalese, Spanish, Maori, Korean, Taiwanese and Indonesian.

This multilingual environment helps ensure that all children and families can communicate comfortably, fostering and inclusive and supportive community.

We are proud to integrate Auslan into our program, starting from our babies room. Early exposure to sign language helps develop communication skills and promotes inclusivity, making sure every child has access to meaningful ways of expressing themselves.

The Reggio Emilia Approach

Our educational philosophy is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which emphasises the importance of the environment as the "third teacher". We design our spaces to be flexible, inspiring, and engaging, allowing children to explore, inquire, and learn through hands-on activities and collaborative projects.

In our approach, children's ideas, interests, and questions are the centre of our program. We believe that learning is a social experience, where children, educators, and families work together to build a deep understanding of the world.
